Alleged members of Basaev's and Khattab's detachments denied the charges

The Southern District Military Court held a hearing on the case of Kaytarba Nasyrov and Toymaskhan Ajinyazov. They rejected the charges brought against them in the case of an attack in 1999 on Russian servicemen in Dagestan during the second Russian-Chechen war.

Nasyrova and Ajinyazov were detained in May 2022 in the Stavropol region. According to the investigation, they, as part of the detachments of field commanders Shamil Basaev and Khattab, attacked federal servicemen in August 1999 in the Botlykh district of Dagestan. As a result, 33 soldiers were killed, and another 34 people were injured.

The defendants are charged under Part 2 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (banditry), Art. 279 (armed rebellion) and Art. 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer).
