Georgian President Outraged by Arrests of Young People Participating in Protests
Police are beating, detaining and bringing criminal charges against young people who participated in protests in Tbilisi demanding repeat elections. This was stated by Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili.

"Punitive measures are being taken against young Georgian activists: beatings by police officers, arrests and threats of up to 7 years in prison," Zurabishvili said.

In particular, the prosecutor's office brought charges against Mate Devidze, who was arrested during a rally on Melikishvili Avenue in Tbilisi. The agency claims that he inflicted various bodily injuries on three police officers with a wooden stick. He faces up to 7 years in prison.

In addition, the police initially accused activist Lizi Tirkia of attacking five security officers. After that, the Ministry of Internal Affairs denied this information.

On November 19, law enforcement officers detained 16 people on Melikishvili Avenue for administrative reasons.
