Presidential elections in Azerbaijan have been postponed from 2025 to February 2024

The head of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, has appointed early presidential elections for February 7, 2024. They were supposed to take place in 2025. The reason for the date change is not specified.

The current president, Ilham Aliyev, who has led the country for 20 years, may again run for the post of head of the republic. According to the Constitution of Azerbaijan, one person can hold the post of head of state for an unlimited number of terms.

Aliyev's critics believe that, most likely, after the victory in Karabakh, Aliyev wants to continue his rule with a clean slate as the president of a united Azerbaijan that has restored territorial integrity.
