Today, Azerbaijan celebrates the 34th anniversary of its restoration of state independence. On August 30, 1991, the Supreme Council of the Republic adopted the Declaration on the Restoration of Independence, and on October 18 of the same year, the Constitutional Act enshrining this status was adopted.

The sentencing of journalist Abdulmumin Gadzhiev and two other defendants scheduled for today was postponed to September 11 due to the convoy being busy. This was reported by the Telegram channel “ZHR”.
On June 22, the prosecutor's office requested 19 years in prison for Abdulmumin Gadzhiev, Abubakar Rizvanov and Kemal Tambiev. At the last court hearing, the defendants noted that the prosecution had not presented convincing evidence and again declared their innocence.
The editor of the religion department of the Chernovik newspaper, Abdulmumin Gadzhiev, the head of the Ansar charitable foundation, Abubakar Rizvanov, and programmer Kemal Tambiev are accused of financing terrorism and participating in the activities of terrorist organizations. According to investigators, the defendants collaborated with Dagestani preacher Israil Akhmednabiev, wanted by Interpol, and sent funds collected to Syrian terrorists under the pretext of building mosques and helping poor Muslims. We are talking about an amount of 68 million rubles and 200 thousand dollars.
Let us recall that the accusation against Abdulmumin Gadzhiev was based on two components: the transfer of 16 thousand rubles to ISIS (banned in the Russian Federation) and the propaganda of terrorism in twenty articles. Both theses were not confirmed in court. In addition, none of the prosecution witnesses was able to provide incriminating information about Gadzhiev. At the same time, he, along with other defendants in the case, has been under arrest since 2019.
The meeting of the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don in the case of Gadzhiev, Rizvanov and Tambiev and, accordingly, the announcement of their verdict will take place next Monday at 10 a.m. Moscow time.
