A Chechen sentenced in Kyrgyzstan asked not to be deported to Russia

A court in Bishkek sentenced a native of Chechnya, Mansur Movlaev, to six months in prison for illegally crossing the border of Kyrgyzstan. According to a court decision, after his release he will be deported to Russia, which he fears due to possible torture.

27-year-old Mansur Movlaev asked to be sentenced to the maximum term under this article - two years. He flew to Bishkek in August and was detained by officers of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan. Previously, he was put on the federal wanted list in Russia.

In 2020, Mansur Movlaev was sentenced to three years on charges of financing extremism. In fact, he was persecuted for criticizing the Chechen authorities against human rights violations and repression. In 2022, he was released on parole, but he was detained by security forces in Chechnya. Movlaev managed to escape and reach Kyrgyzstan illegally.
