Arrest of Azerbaijani opposition scientist extended

In Baku, a court extended the arrest of the chairman of the Azerbaijan Democracy and Prosperity Party, economist Gubad Ibadoglu, for three months. The politician stated that the charges and his detention were groundless.

The prisoner has cardiovascular diseases and an acute form of diabetes. At the same time, doctors hired by relatives to prescribe treatment for him are not allowed into the pre-trial detention center.

Let us remind you that Azerbaijani politician and economist Gubad Ibadoglu was detained on charges of making counterfeit money. On the day of his arrest, a search was carried out at his place of residence, during which banknotes worth 40 thousand dollars were discovered.

Later, he was charged with producing, storing or distributing extremist materials. The accused rejects the investigators' arguments.

The arrest of Gubad Ibadoglu caused a wide resonance in the world. Human rights activists believe that the scientist is being persecuted for political reasons. Politicians from the United States and European countries came out in support of it.
