Elena Patyaeva—a friend of Seda Suleymanova, who disappeared three years ago after being forcibly returned from St. Petersburg to Chechnya—was detained in Grozny. On August 23, Patyaeva stood by the monument to journalists who died for freedom of speech, holding a sign that read: "I demand an investigation into the murder of Seda Suleymanova." A criminal case of treason was opened against the former head coach of the Dagestan kickboxing team, Akhmad Akhmedov. He has been living in Ukraine since 2017, where he holds the position of president of the K-1 professional kickboxing federation.
Akhmedov participated in the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Later he transferred to the “Dagestan Volunteer Battalion named after Imam Shamil” and participated in the defense of Bakhmut.
According to media reports, Akhmedov’s family lives in Russia. He could face life imprisonment in the treason case.
