Criminal case completed against alleged members of Basayev and Khattab's detachment

The Main Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee for the North Caucasus Federal District has completed the investigation of criminal cases against residents of Chechnya and Tatarstan Alavdi Batykaev and Eduard Valiakhmetov. They are accused of committing crimes under Part 2 of Art. 209 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in a gang), art. 279 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (armed rebellion) and art. 317 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (encroachment on the life of military personnel).

According to the investigation, the defendants, acting as part of the armed formations under the leadership of Shamil Basayev and Khattab, on February 29, 2000, took part in an attack on servicemen of the sixth company of the 104th regiment of the 76th Pskov airborne division in the area of the village. Ulus-Kert, Shatoi region of Chechnya. On that day, 84 servicemen were killed.
