The decree signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin that same day regarding the change of leadership in Dagestan was published on the Kremlin website. Head of the republic, Sergei Melikov, has resigned, and Fyodor Shchukin has been appointed acting head.
Putin proposed three candidates for the post of head of Ingushetia
Russian President Vladimir Putin submitted three candidates for the post of head of the republic to the Ingush parliament for consideration. They are the current leader Makhmud-Ali Kalimatov, as well as Alikhan Arapkhanov and Islam Gadiev.
Alikhan Arapkhanov and Ilam Gadiev are deputies of the People's Assembly of Ingushetia. The former is also the head of the department at the Main Bureau of Medical and Social Expertise and a member of the A Just Russia party. The latter is the chairman of the parliament's committee on state building and legislation.
The head of Ingushetia will be elected by the regional parliament's deputies from among the candidates proposed by the country's president. The vote will take place on September 8, 2024.
