Investigation into beating of journalist and lawyer in Chechnya suspended
The Investigative Committee suspended the investigation into the beating of journalist Elena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov in Chechnya. The reason is the impossibility of finding suspects.

“It seems obvious to me that no one was really being looked for. But we need to fly to get acquainted with the materials and make public what has been done there to really find the criminals,” Nemov shared.

Recall that on July 4, 2023, about 10-15 masked men attacked journalist Elena Milashina and lawyer Alexander Nemov on the way from the airport to Grozny. They were on their way to the announcement of the verdict in the case of Zarema Musayeva. Both victims received serious injuries.

Zarema Musayeva is the wife of former federal judge Saidi Yangulbaev and the mother of Chechen activists Ibragim, Baysangur, and Abubakar Yangulbaev. In early March 2024, the Pyatigorsk Cassation Court reduced her sentence on the previous charge, reducing her prison term from 5 years to 4 years and 9 months. In July 2023, a court in Grozny found the woman guilty of using violence against a police officer and fraud and sentenced her to five years in prison. Investigators believe that she scratched the face of a Chechen police officer during her transfer from Nizhny Novgorod to Grozny. A second criminal case was recently opened against her. According to investigators, Zarema Musayeva hit an FSIN officer who accompanied her on trips to the hospital and tore off his shoulder strap. The defendant denies all charges against her. In addition, she has been moving around for a long time only with the help of crutches due to a serious illness.
