Another lawsuit filed by former Senator Rauf Arashukov of the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic, sentenced to life imprisonment in the Black Dolphin prison colony, was dismissed by a court in the Orenburg region. The convict sought 100,000 rubles for moral damages related to incomplete food distribution.
According to the case file, Arashukov ordered 14,000 rubles worth of food but received only 4,172 rubles. The court found that the missing items were not in stock.
This is not Arashukov's first complaint about his conditions. He had previously unsuccessfully attempted to improve them through lawsuits. For example, at various times he was denied a cold appetizer for lunch and two eggs per week, and was also denied daily phone calls.
Rauf Arashukov, a former senator from Karachay-Cherkessia, was detained on January 30, 2019, at a meeting of the Federation Council and subsequently arrested along with his father, Raul Arashukov, a former advisor to Gazprom Mezhregiongaz. On December 27, 2022, the Moscow City Court sentenced both men to life imprisonment. They were found guilty of creating an organized crime group, organizing two murders (of Adyghe Khase chairman Aslan Zhukov and advisor to the president of the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic Fral Shebzukhov), and embezzling 4.4 billion rubles worth of gas from Gazprom.
While serving his life sentence, Rauf Arashukov was found guilty of bribing an official (3 million rubles to an employee of the Federal Penitentiary Service for the Orenburg Region) in order to obtain preferential treatment. On January 13, 2026, the Orenburg court sentenced him to an additional 10 years in prison and a fine of 120 million rubles.
Shortly before the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation confirmed his life sentence (October 2024), Arashukov appealed to Ramzan Kadyrov, apologizing for his mistakes and expressing hope for his assistance. He also repeatedly requested to wage war against Ukraine, but to no avail.
