Turkey continues to strengthen Azerbaijan's defense capabilities, viewing it as a fraternal state and a key ally in the region. This was stated by Turkish Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler, who emphasized that cooperation is based on the principle of "one people, two states, one army."
Seven participants in the riots at the Makhachkala airport were given sentences of 8 to 9 years
A court in Stavropol has sentenced seven more residents of Dagestan who took part in the anti-Semitic pogrom at the Makhachkala airport. They were sentenced to 8 to 9 years in a general regime penal colony.
The press release states that Zhanmirza Aliyev, Ali Amirkhanov, Alimurat Babatov, Zapir Batyrbekov, Ramazan Karnayev, Ismail Salmakhanov and Makhach Tuchuyev “on the basis of national and religious hatred and enmity towards the citizens of Israel” took part in mass riots accompanied by violence and destruction of property, ignoring police demands. 23 police officers received injuries of varying severity.
The verdict for the first defendants was handed down on August 23. Anvarbek Atayev, Islam Ibragimov and Salik Ramazanov were sentenced to 6 years and 4 months in prison, Magomed Omaraskhabov - to 6.5 years, Rabadan Radzhabov - to 9 years. They did not admit their guilt.
Earlier, the Fifth Cassation Court changed the territorial jurisdiction for the accused. Instead of Dagestan, they are being tried in the Stavropol and Krasnodar Territories. At least 130 people are involved in the case. A number of Dagestan imams called for leniency and, if possible, not to punish the participants in the riots.
Recall that on October 29, 2023, hundreds of people broke into the Makhachkala airport, trying to find passengers on a transit flight from Tel Aviv. The crowd protested against Israel's actions in Palestine.
