Investigators conduct searches at properties linked to the Karapetyans; operation spans 65 locations

The Investigative Committee of Armenia is conducting searches at the residences of Samvel Karapetyan, leader of the "Strong Armenia" party, and Narek Karapetyan, head of the party’s parliamentary faction. The investigative actions began early this morning and extended to other locations associated with the family.

"Since early this morning, investigators from the Investigative Committee have been conducting searches at the residences of 'Strong Armenia' party leader Samvel Karapetyan and the head of the 'Strong Armenia' faction in the National Assembly, Narek Karapetyan," stated the party’s press secretary, Aghavni Sukiasyan.

The Investigative Committee confirmed that searches are being carried out simultaneously at 65 locations as part of a single criminal proceeding. The agency did not specify which locations are being searched or the nature of the investigation. It has been noted that officers from the National Security Service were present at Narek Karapetyan’s home.

Samvel Karapetyan is a Russian-Armenian entrepreneur and owner of the Tashir Group. In the summer of 2025, he was detained on charges of making public calls for the seizure of power. He is currently under house arrest.

The "Strong Armenia" party placed second in the parliamentary elections held in June 2026, trailing the ruling "Civil Contract" party, led by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Following the vote, Pashinyan claimed that 70% of the votes received by the opposition had been "bought with money" and vowed to combat what he termed a "criminal oligarchy." In early July, security forces conducted searches at the home of Gagik Tsarukyan, leader of the "Prosperous Armenia" party, as well as at businesses linked to him. The politician himself was detained and subsequently placed under arrest.
