After almost a month of hunger strike, the Azerbaijani oppositionist was transferred to the hospital

On the 26th day of the hunger strike, one of the leaders of the Azerbaijani opposition movements - the National Council of Democratic Forces (NSDS) and the "Musavat" party - Tofig Yagubla was transferred from the medical unit of the pre-trial detention center to the treatment facility of the Penitentiary Service. During this time, he lost 14 kg.

Earlier it was reported that the politician's pains in his internal organs increased in the pre-trial detention center, his vision became worse and he could not move. His family demanded transfer to a private clinic.

In March, a court in Baku sentenced Tofyg Yagubla to nine years in prison. He pointed to the lack of evidence and falsification of the criminal case. Yagublu is known for criticizing the authorities of Azerbaijan. At the end of 2023, he was arrested on charges of fraud and forgery of documents. Before that, the politician was repeatedly subjected to criminal and administrative prosecution. International organizations recognized him as a prisoner of conscience.
