The United States imposed the first sanctions against a Georgian citizen for increasing Russian influence

Former Prosecutor General of Georgia Otar Partskhaladze came under US sanctions for connections with Russia. This is stated on the website of the American Ministry of Finance. The ex-Prosecutor General's assets have been blocked, and US citizens are prohibited from cooperating with him.

Partskhaladze was the Prosecutor General of Georgia at the end of 2013. He later received Russian citizenship and went into business in Russia. The FSB uses it to influence Georgian society and politics in the interests of Moscow, the US Treasury noted.

According to the Chairman of the Georgian Parliament
Shalva Papuashvili, Otar Partskhaladze have had no contact with government agencies for the last ten years. “He is a private person, but at the same time the first citizen of Georgia to be subjected to such sanctions. The relevant departments will study this issue, and the public will receive information to understand what is going on,” he told Imedi TV channel.
