On August 31, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don rejected all 52 motions filed by the defense in the case of the so-called "fifth Bakhchisarai group." Judge Roman Saprunov rendered the ruling as part of the panel of judges. This was reported by Amina Seitumerova, the wife of political prisoner Abdulmedzhit Seitumerov, who is a defendant in the case.

"Another hearing – all motions denied. Today, August 31, the Southern District Military Court in Rostov-on-Don held another hearing in the case of the so-called fifth Bakhchisarai group, which includes my husband, political prisoner Abdulmedzhit Seitumerov. The court considered motions previously filed by the defense. "At the previous hearing, the prosecutor expressed his opinion in 15 minutes that all appeals should be denied. As a result, today—in about the same 15 minutes—the court denied ALL (!) petitions, and there were more than 50 of them," the woman wrote on Facebook.

According to Suspilne Krym, citing human rights activists, the rejected petitions included petitions for psychological-linguistic, religious studies, fingerprinting, and audiographic examinations. The defense also requested that material evidence, in its opinion, be excluded from the case and that witnesses be called. The court found the petitions unfounded and stated that the evidence in the case was obtained legally, there were no violations in the preparation of the materials, and the persons questioned gave their testimony properly. The court also noted that the defendants did not file any relevant complaints during the investigation.

All six defendants in the "Fifth Bakhchisaray Group" case—Abdulmedzhit Seytumerov, Remzi Nimetulayev, Ametkhan Umerov, Ruslan Asanov, Eldar Yakubov, and Seidamet Mustafayev—are Crimean Tatars. They were detained following mass searches in the Bakhchisaray district in August 2023. In July, the Southern District Military Court extended their pretrial detention until at least October 14.

The case stems from accusations of involvement with Hizb ut-Tahrir. Russian authorities designated this organization a terrorist organization in 2003. Since January 2015, criminal cases for involvement in Hizb ut-Tahrir have been launched en masse in Crimea, which came under de facto Russian control. According to human rights activists, Crimean Tatars are being persecuted not for plotting a coup d'état or terrorism, but for criticizing the Russian government and speaking out against repression in Crimea.
