The court refused to transfer the criminal case against the lawyer to Chechnya

The Supreme Court refused to transfer the criminal case against the lawyer, a native of Chechnya Timur Idalov, to Chechnya at the request of the defense. Since April, the man has been under arrest on charges of threatening to use violence against a Moscow law enforcement officer. Then he was released under a ban on certain activities - he would not be allowed to use the telephone or the Internet.

Idalov’s case will be considered by the Nikulinsky District Court of Moscow. The defense noted that Alexey Bobkov, one of the judges of this court, filed a statement against Idalov with the Investigative Committee. Therefore, the lawyers doubt the objectivity of the court and asked to transfer the case to Chechnya, where their client belongs to the bar association.

According to investigators, at a meeting of the Nikulinsky District Court in October 2022, Idalov allegedly made threats against the state prosecutor. He later stated that the charges against him were fabricated by the FSB with the help of investigative agencies. The defense called the initiation of a criminal case a retaliation against a lawyer who is acting as a defense attorney in a number of high-profile criminal cases.

Timur Idalov is known for representing the interests of the former governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, Sergei Furgal, who was convicted of organizing murders. He also collaborated with the Human Rights Project and specialized in cases involving terrorism charges and high-profile murders.
