The court considered the claim of a Crimean Tatar against the Federal Penitentiary Service

A court in Khakassia considered the claim of citizen journalist Remzi Bekirov against the Federal Penitentiary Service of the Russian Federation for the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The Crimean Tatar complained that during the transfer from the Yeniseisk prison to IK-33 in Abakan, the guards violated both his rights and the rights of other prisoners. The plaintiff has not yet received a response.

“During the transfer, I and other prisoners were subjected to constant surveillance by FSIN employees while relieving ourselves. These actions are not normal for any person - religious or not, free or imprisoned,” Bekirov emphasized.

Earlier, a court in Crimea rejected Remzi Bekirov’s claim against the administration of the colony for placing him in a punishment cell for five days as punishment for performing morning prayer. According to the journalist, a prison employee filed a report on him because the Muslim allegedly violated the prison's daily routine. Over the course of six months after that, Bekirov was placed in solitary confinement seven times for formal reasons: he did not greet an employee, did not put on a hat.

In March 2022, the Southern District Military Court of Rostov-on-Don sentenced Remzi Bekirov to 19 years in prison. He was found guilty of participating in the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir, which is recognized as a terrorist organization in the Russian Federation.

Since January 2015, in Crimea, which came under Russian control, they began to massively initiate criminal cases for participation in Hizb ut-Tahrir. According to human rights activists, Crimean Tatars are being persecuted not for preparing a coup d'etat and terrorism, but for criticizing the Russian authorities.
