Court in Munich sentences organizer of assassination attempt on Chechen human rights activist to 10 years

The Higher Regional Court in Munich sentenced Valid Dadakaev, a native of Chechnya, to 10 years in prison in the case of organizing an assassination attempt on human rights activist Muhammad Abdurakhmanov, who criticizes the Russian regime. The chairman of the process, Judge Christoph Wisner, said that the assassination attempt was prepared "with the knowledge, approval and in the interests" of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov. It is reported by Deutsche Welle.

The court also established that the customer of the crime was Kadyrov's cousin. His name is not published, but Abdurakhmanov himself claims that this is Pakhrudi Edilgiriev.

"I should have been killed because my brother Tumso Abdurakhmanov and I publicly criticize the Russian regime in Chechnya," Muhammad Abdurakhmanov said after the verdict was announced. He also expressed hope that after the verdict, Germany would grant him political asylum, which he had previously been denied.

Muhammad Abdurakhmanov is a representative of the Chechen human rights association Vayfond in Germany. The German law enforcement agencies prevented an attempt on his life in December 2020. The brother of Muhammad Abdurakhmanov, opposition blogger Tumso Abdurakhmanov, was assassinated in February 2020, with another allegedly planned in autumn 2022.
