Spouse of Azerbaijani political prisoner speaks about the plight of a large family
The wife of Agyl Humbatov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan sentenced to 10 years, demanded that the country's president release her husband and pay her benefits. According to her, the three-child family is in a state of poverty and lives only on the benefits of one of the children.

“We have no money for medicine, the sick child is forced to sleep on the floor. I can’t buy a bed - I have no money. The state refused to pay our family social benefits, since it turned out that the moped left by my husband is considered a “vehicle” and therefore the family does not fall into the category of those in need,” the woman shared.

On August 11, 2021, Agyl Humbatov was detained and subsequently charged with stabbing a man. He was soon sentenced to 10 years in prison. A year before his arrest, he was twice placed in a psychiatric hospital for criticizing the Azerbaijani authorities.

Human rights activists have recognized Gumbatov as a political prisoner. In the colony, he declared a hunger strike, after which he was put in solitary confinement.
