Spouse of Azerbaijani political prisoner claims he was not given medical care
The wife of Agil Humbatov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan sentenced to 10 years, reported that he was not given medical care after a tooth extraction.

“Agil is suffering from pain, but no one is responding to his complaints. They are tormenting him intentionally, punishing him for his political activity,” the woman shared.

In 2024, she demanded that the President of Azerbaijan release her husband and pay him an allowance. According to her, their family of three is in a state of poverty and lives only on the allowance of one of the children.

“We have no money for medicine, the sick child is forced to sleep on the floor. I can’t buy a bed – I have no money. The state refused to pay our family social benefits, since it turned out that the moped left by my husband is considered a “vehicle” and therefore the family does not fall into the category of those in need,” the prisoner’s wife said.

On August 11, 2021, Agil Humbatov was arrested and subsequently charged with stabbing a man. He was soon sentenced to 10 years in prison. A year before his arrest, he was twice placed in a psychiatric hospital for criticizing the Azerbaijani authorities. Human rights activists recognized Humbatov as a political prisoner. In the colony, he went on a hunger strike, after which he was placed in solitary confinement.
