The arrested Crimean Tatar journalist's eyesight has deteriorated

In the pre-trial detention center, political prisoner-journalist Vilen Temeryanov’s vision has sharply deteriorated and his eyes hurt. He is also bothered by stomach and toothaches, which he associates with his diet. This was reported by his wife Elmaz Gazieva.

In August 2022, security forces in the village of Volnoye, Dzhankoy district of Crimea, searched the house of Temeryanov, a correspondent for Crimean Solidarity and Grani.ru. He was detained on charges of participation in the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir, banned in the Russian Federation. He is involved in the case along with other Crimean Tatar political prisoners: Enver Krosh, Rinat Aliyev, Murat Mustafayev, Seityagi Abbozov and Edem Bekirov. An audio recording of conversations about prayer, made in the mosque back in 2015, became evidence for the prosecution.

“The defendants discussed a number of issues about namaz: how to perform namaz, what Sharia norms are on this matter, and so on. There was no talk about terrorism and extremism. This once again proves the nature of the criminal cases against our clients,” lawyer Emil Kurbedinov commented in court on the investigation’s version.
