Members of the Gakharia for Georgia party have had their parliamentary mandates taken away

12 members of the Gakharia for Georgia party have been stripped of their parliamentary powers due to “unreasonable absence from meetings.” In particular, Teona Akubardia, Ana Buchukuri, Giorgi Gakharia, Levan Gogichaishvili, Zaza Tavadze, Beka Liluashvili, Natia Mezvrishvili, Berdia Sichinava, Kakhaber Kemoklidze, Roin Kochorashvili, Dimitri Tskitishvili and Zviad Dzidziguri lost their mandates.

Currently, the parliament, whose legitimacy is not recognized by the opposition, the fifth president of the country and most EU countries, is represented by 89 deputies. Normally, the legislative body should be formed by 150 members.

Unlike other opposition forces, Giorgi Gakharia’s party has not withdrawn its electoral list. It follows that the parliament must decide on recognizing the authority of the next 12 candidates from the list.

In addition, according to the law "On political associations of citizens", the Gakharia for Georgia party will not be able to receive funding from the budget for the next 6 months, since more than half of the members of parliament elected on its proposal were absent from more than half of the plenary sessions of the parliament for an unjustified reason.

It is also known that on June 2 at 16:00, the interrogation of the party leader Giorgi Gakharia by the parliamentary investigative commission on the so-called Chorchana case is to take place. As noted by the head of the commission, Tea Tsulukiani, the politician will be obliged "to provide the technical part himself when connecting and not to disconnect the connection until the end of the session." Let us recall that the maximum penalty for "failure to comply with the legal requirements of the temporary investigative commission of the parliament" (Article 349 of the Criminal Code of Georgia) is imprisonment for up to one year. Cases under this article have been brought against about ten opposition representatives, and they are being sentenced one after another.
