During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. He said he believed this was "right" and suggested "following their example," citing Ramzan Kadyrov's large family.
Crimean Tatar activists were searched
Security forces conducted searches and detained several Crimean Tatar leaders. In particular, the imam of the Muslim community “Eski Kyrym” Izet Sayfullin and activist Lenur Yakubov were detained. They were taken to the Center for Countering Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Searches were also carried out in the Old Crimea mosque, the houses of the chairman of the Eski Kyrym community, Idris Yurdamov, and activist Shevekt Kiyamov.
Many Crimean Tatars are considered unreliable by Russian authorities. They support Ukraine and criticize the Russian government. Criminal cases are being initiated against Crimean Tatars for membership in the Hizb ut-Tahrir party, recognized as a terrorist organization.
