A Crimean Tatar political prisoner had his Quran confiscated

Upon arrival at IK-1 in the Tula Region, political prisoner Seyran Saliev had his Quran confiscated. He was also placed in solitary confinement. He has now spent a total of one year in solitary confinement, first in Colony No. 4 and then in IK-1 in the Tula Region.

Over the course of 2025, the Crimean Tatar spent over four months in solitary confinement. The prison administration designated him a "malicious violator of the established order" without providing any specific justification. During this period, Saliev lost 12 kilograms. He experienced deterioration in his vision and dental health.

Seyran Saliev, who has a degree in philology (specializing in Turkish and Crimean Tatar languages), previously worked as a tour guide and journalist. In 2020, he was sentenced to 16 years in prison for his ties to the Islamic party Hizb ut-Tahrir. This organization is designated a terrorist organization in Russia, despite its activities being permitted in several European countries and other regions. The first arrests in Crimea for such criminal cases began in 2015, when the peninsula became part of the Russian Federation.
