At the direction of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, the Akhmad Kadyrov Foundation provided large-scale charitable assistance to residents of three Dagestani villages—Adillotar, Kadyrotar, and Tutlar—in the Khasavyurt district, affected by the recent flooding. More than 4,000 people live in these villages, and the disaster destroyed 457 of 538 households.
A native of Chechnya, Beslan (last name withheld), has been detained in Lithuania. According to media reports, he faces deportation to Russia. The arrest occurred when he applied to the country's Ministry of Internal Affairs to renew his residence permit.
Human rights activist Roza Dunayeva, a representative of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria abroad, described the situation. According to her, Beslan has legally resided in Lithuania for 21 years and has children who are Lithuanian citizens. The reasons for his detention are unknown.
Dunayeva emphasized that for Chechens, especially those who participated in the Russian-Chechen wars, returning to Russia carries serious risks, including torture and political persecution. She also recalled that last December, Lithuanian authorities publicly assured that the Chechens would not be extradited to Russia.
Two natives of Chechnya had previously been deported from Lithuania. The human rights activist called for immediate access of lawyers and human rights defenders to the detainee, a transparent explanation of the reasons for his arrest, compliance with Lithuania's international humanitarian obligations, and immediate release if there are no legal grounds for detention.
