The brother of a Chechen oppositionist thanked Germany for providing asylum

The German authorities granted political asylum to a native of Chechnya, Mokhammad Abdurakhmanov. He is a human rights activist and the brother of opposition blogger Tumso Abdurakhmanov. Mohammad was previously denied refugee status twice. He thanked Germany for the assistance provided.

In August 2023, the Munich Higher Regional Court sentenced Valid Dadakaev to 10 years in prison. He was found guilty of the attempt on the life of Mohammad Abdurakhmanov.
According to the German Federal Prosecutor's Office, Dadakaev did not have time to commit a crime in 2020; he was detained. During the search, a pistol with a silencer was found on him, from which it was planned to shoot Abdurakhmanov.

The main witness in the case is another Chechen, Tamerlan A. According to the investigation, he was supposed to become the perpetrator of the crime. The investigation believes that Dadakaev suggested that Tamerlan kill Abdurakhmanov, but he told the victim himself about the impending action. Valid Dadakaev had a direct connection with Paruddi Edelgiriev, the cousin of the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, and acted on his instructions. The German prosecutor's office reported this.
