In Adygea, a contract soldier with a mental illness was sentenced to seven and a half years
The Maykop Garrison Court sentenced contract soldier Amir Kabekhov to 7.5 years in a strict regime penal colony. He was found guilty of desertion due to leaving his military unit. In court, he cited his existing mental illness.
 
According to investigators, Kabekhov, who had previously been convicted of theft and robbery, signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense. At the end of 2023, he left his unit and lived with his sister for six months. After his arrest, he was held in the military commandant's office for eight days. Kabekhov's defense claimed that he suffered from a mental illness, was a father of two children, and also planned to return to his unit.
 
The Maykop Garrison Court sentenced him to seven and a half years in a strict regime penal colony. The Southern District Court sent the case back for a new trial.
