Armenia has stated its desire to independently control its borders
Russian border guards may stop serving on the Armenian-Turkish and Armenian-Iranian borders. This was stated by Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Paruyr Hovhannisyan.

"You know that the control of Armenia's borders has always been carried out by a third country. Finally, we must be able to control our border ourselves," Hovhannisyan emphasized.

According to him, US assistance in strengthening Armenia's border capabilities will facilitate the withdrawal of Russian border guards from the Armenian-Turkish and Armenian-Iranian borders. At the same time, he noted that Iran did not express dissatisfaction with the arrival of American border control specialists to the Armenian-Iranian border.

On January 15, former US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, at a meeting with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, said that a special border security team from the US will arrive in Armenia next week to work together in the border area.

In July 2024, after 32 years of service, Russian border guards left Yerevan's Zvartnots airport. In addition, from January 1, 2025, they stopped serving at the checkpoint on the Armenian-Iranian border.
