Two opposition activists arrested in Azerbaijan

In Baku, Sadd sentenced activists of the opposition party of the Azerbaijan People’s Front (PNFA), Dzheihun Novruzov, to 30 days' arrest, and Sahladar Iskenderly to 25 days. Both were found guilty under art. 535.1 (disobedience to police requirements).

The men were detained on 30 March in front of the MoJ in defence of PNFA member Zamin Salaev. He spent 53 days on hunger strike in Baku detention center, demanding to be released.
The PNFA considers the arrests of Novruzov and Iskenderli a violation of the freedom of assembly. The decisions will be appealed in the court of appeal.

Earlier, the party claimed to have detained more than 50 activists during the March 30 rally, most of whom were released a few hours later.
