Two more journalists were arrested in Azerbaijan

The police arrested for 15 days under the article “Minor Hooliganism” of the political observer of Jamnews Jamnews Shakhin Rzayev. Earlier, he periodically expressed criticism of the authorities of Azerbaijan and became known as a participant in civil society projects.

In addition, the court in Baku placed in a pre -trial detention center for two months and 17 days of ABZAS Media journalist Elnar Gasimova. She was involved in the same article (smuggling by prior conspiracy) of the Criminal Code as the other five journalists arrested in the ABZAS Media case. Gasimova rejected the accusations and stated that her persecution was due to the fact that after the arrests of her colleagues, she continued journalistic work, made filming for this publication.

Recently in Azerbaijan there have been repressions to independent journalists and activists. The director of the online publication Abzas Media Ulvi Hasanli, editor-in-chief Sevinj Vagifgyzy, journalists Nargiz Absalamov and Shamo Emin, as well as the activist Mohammed Kekalov, were arrested. They were accused of smuggling foreign currency. Numerous human rights and journalistic international organizations demanded their liberation.
