Azerbaijan's State Security Service (SSS) has accused Iranian intelligence agencies, specifically the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), of plotting a series of terrorist attacks in the country. According to Minval, the SSS announced the arrest of several suspects, from whom explosive devices were seized.
Azerbaijan's Media Development Agency has dismissed reports of heavy weapons being deployed on the border with Iran as fake news. The agency stated that a video circulating on social media, allegedly showing this, was actually filmed in January and shows the planned movement of military equipment.
Azerbaijan considers such actions to be informational provocations aimed at creating panic amid tensions in the Middle East. It is reported that disseminating information about the movement and deployment of Azerbaijani armed forces entails criminal liability.
The agency called on the media and the public to rely only on official sources, refrain from disseminating questionable content, and demonstrate professionalism to avoid contributing to disinformation.
As a reminder, today Azerbaijan began evacuating diplomats from Iran, including the embassy in Tehran and the consulate general in Tabriz. The decision was made following the Iranian drone attack on Nakhchivan Airport, which President Ilham Aliyev labeled a terrorist attack, blaming Iran. In response to the incident, Aliyev declared all of the country's security forces on full combat readiness.
The General Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces denies any involvement in the attack, blaming Israel and emphasizing respect for Azerbaijan's sovereignty. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi contacted his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov, on March 5 to announce the launch of an investigation.
