In Crimea, police officers issued human rights activist Abdureshit Dzhepparov a warning against violating the law. Law enforcement officials explained the document's origins in connection with the upcoming holiday on May 9th, but such actions typically occur shortly before the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Deportation of the Crimean Tatar People (May 18th).
Four presidential candidates have emerged in Azerbaijan
The day before, the chairman of the Great Azerbaijan Party, Elshad Musayev, nominated his candidacy for the country's upcoming presidential elections. Earlier, similar statements were made by the chairman of the board of the Center for Social Research, member of the Azerbaijani parliament Zahid Oruj and the head of the Great Meeting party and the parliamentary culture committee Fazil Mustafa.
The opposition parties Popular Front Party and Musavat refused to nominate their candidates. The ruling “New Azerbaijan” was the first to nominate its candidate - the current President Ilham Aliyev.
On February 7, 2024, early presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan. Aliyev signed the corresponding order.
