In Crimea, police officers issued human rights activist Abdureshit Dzhepparov a warning against violating the law. Law enforcement officials explained the document's origins in connection with the upcoming holiday on May 9th, but such actions typically occur shortly before the Day of Remembrance for the Victims of the Deportation of the Crimean Tatar People (May 18th).
Azerbaijan celebrates Ilham Aliyev's victory in presidential elections
Early presidential elections took place in Azerbaijan today. According to Azerbaijani media, incumbent President Ilham Aliyev won. He has ruled the country since 2003, inheriting the post from his father Heydar Aliyev, and is seeking his fifth presidential term.
The Azerbaijan Social Research Center has published the results of the exit-poll. 92.6% of voters voted for Aliyev. His “competitors” showed the following results: Zahid Oruj – 2.2%, Fail Mustafa – 2%, Gudrat Hasanguliyev – 1.6%, Elshad Musayev – 0.8%, Razi Nurullayev – 0.6%, Fuad Aliyev – 0 ,4%.
