In Azerbaijan, they want to sentence a journalist to 9 years
At the Baku Court of Grave Crimes, the state prosecutor asked to sentence journalist Teymur Kerimov to nine years in prison. He was previously recognized as a political prisoner.
 
The director of the YouTube project Kanal-11, Teymur Kerimov, was arrested in December 2023 on charges under Article 182.2.2 (repeated extortion by threats), 182.2.4. (extortion for the purpose of seizing property in a significant amount) and 182.2.1 (extortion by a group of persons by prior agreement) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. According to lawyers, there is no evidence under any of the articles.
 
Teymur Kerimov previously reported torture in police custody after his arrest. However, he was denied criminal proceedings on this matter.
 
Human rights activists note that from December 3 to 10 alone, nine people were arrested in Azerbaijan for political reasons.
