Chechnya Promotes Mountainous Areas: Photo Contest of Local Mountains Announced in Vedeno

The administration of the Vedensky District in Chechnya has announced a contest for photographs and short videos featuring local mountain scenery. A prize of 100,000 rubles is offered for the best entry, while the runners-up in second and third place will receive 70,000 and 50,000 rubles, respectively.

To participate, entrants must publish a photo or video taken within the district by August 31, tag the page of the municipal head, Turpal-Ali Abdulazizov, and include the hashtag #YearOfMountainousDistricts2026. The winners will be announced on September 3.

In announcing the contest, Abdulazizov noted that 2026 has been designated the "Year of Mountainous Districts" in Chechnya.

"Let as many people as possible learn about the beauty of the Vedensky District! We look forward to your best work!" he wrote.

The contest is part of an ongoing campaign to develop mountainous areas—an initiative the republic's authorities have been discussing since the beginning of the year. At that time, Abdulazizov stated that for the Vedensky District, the "Year of Mountainous Districts" was not a one-off event but part of a long-term strategy. He noted that authorities aim to develop tourism, create conditions for small and medium-sized businesses, and invest in infrastructure.

Projects previously announced by district authorities include the construction of housing, road bridges, sports facilities, and a hotel within the "Khoi – Lake Kezenoy-Am" tourism cluster, as well as continued work on the central mosque in the district administrative center.

Abdulazizov has described mountainous districts as areas with "enormous potential," noting that their development requires a specialized approach to infrastructure, the economy, and tourism.

Through this initiative, authorities aim not only to promote the Vedensky District but also to draw attention to the development program for mountainous areas launched in Chechnya as part of the "Year of Mountainous Districts."
