Chechnya has once again rejected the complaint of an artist who was tortured by security forces
A court in Grozny has rejected the complaint of former actor of the Grozny Russian Drama Theater Timur Debishev for the sixth time. He tried to appeal the decision of the investigation not to initiate a criminal case on the fact of torture.

The previous refusals were overturned by the Supreme Court of Chechnya, and the case was returned for reconsideration. Lawyers of the "Team Against Torture" intend to challenge the decision of the Grozny court again.

In total, the investigation has refused to hold police officers accountable for abuse of power with the use of violence against Timur Derbishev more than 13 times. According to the artist, in 2018, security forces found the number of a suspect in drug trafficking in his mobile phone. The actor was detained, beaten and tortured with electricity.

In the Republican Hospital, Debishev was found to have multiple hematomas on his body. In addition, a medical expert found that the victim had injuries that were caused by exposure to electric current.

Earlier, the European Court ruled to pay the artist who was subjected to violence compensation in the amount of 52 thousand euros.
