In Dagestan, the sentence of a political prisoner who condemned the crimes of the Russian Federation in Ukraine was overturned

The Supreme Court of Dagestan overturned the sentence of Shakhban Abakargadzhiev in a criminal case for disseminating “fakes” about the Russian army and sent it for a new trial to the court of first instance.

Earlier, the Khasavyurt City Court sentenced the man to 5 years in prison, replacing them with 3 years of forced labor. The reason for the criminal prosecution of Abakargadzhiev was his post on Instagram, in which he sharply condemned the crimes committed in the Ukrainian Bucha by the Russian military. In court, Abakargadzhiev admitted his guilt and explained that he copied this text from another resource and published it in a fit of anger after his deceased nephew was brought from Ukraine.

Human rights project “Support for political prisoners. Memorial recognized Dagestan resident Shakhban Abakargadzhiev as a political prisoner.

“Abakargadzhiev is charged with a post with which he condemns the crimes of the military in Bucha. In this case, the accusation of disseminating “knowingly false” information is absurd, since the responsibility of the Russian Federation for mass murders and rapes has been proven and recognized by authoritative organizations. In addition, Art. 207.3 of the Criminal Code is anti-legal in nature, created to carry out repression against critics of the authorities and must be abolished,” human rights activists noted.
