Dagestan promised to condemn all police officers guilty of torturing and killing a man
In the near future, it is planned to bring final charges against 13 defendants in the case of the death of local resident Kurban Dalgatov at the Makhachkala police department. A preventive measure was chosen against 10 police officers in the form of placement in a pre-trial detention center or house arrest.
The prosecutor's office will ask for real imprisonment for all accused. This was stated by an employee of the department of the mother of the deceased.
In January 2023, it became known that 35-year-old Kurban Dalgatov died of strangulation in the police station in the Sovetsky district of Makhachkala. Doctors recorded his injuries.
According to investigators, the police detained Dalgatov because they believed that he had helped an acquaintance escape, who was suspected of shooting at a person. Having taken the man to the police department, the security forces, out of a “desire to show the effectiveness of their work,” began to demand that he indicate the whereabouts of an acquaintance. As a result of torture, the detainee died.
