Picket for the release of Abdulmumin Gadzhiev held in Dagestan
A picket was held in Makhachkala demanding the release of journalist of the Chernovik newspaper Abdulmumin Gadzhiev from the colony and the termination of the fabricated criminal case against him. Deputy editor-in-chief of the Chernovik publication Magomed Magomedov attended the action.
 
In December 2023, lawyers of the Memorial Center sent an appeal to the UN on the case of Abdulmumin Gadzhiev. The text states that he is being persecuted for his professional activities and religious views.
 
Recall that in September 2023, the Rostov District Military Court found Abdulmumin Gadzhiev guilty and sentenced him to 17 years in prison. The editor of the Religion section of the Chernovik publication was tried under the article on "participation in the activities of terrorist organizations" and "financing terrorism." According to the investigation, the journalist published materials about the Ansar charity foundation and did not mention that part of the money collected was sent to the Islamic State, an organization banned in the Russian Federation. Expert examinations did not find any signs of justification of terrorism in Gadzhiev’s articles, and prosecution witnesses spoke in favor of the defendants.

The Russian nationalist movement Russkaya Obshchina (Russian Community) has publicly backed Moscow police officers who forcibly removed the hijab of Fatima Aliyeva, a doctor from Dagestan. In a post on its Telegram channel, the group accused the woman of deliberately provoking the incident and attempting to discredit law enforcement. It also pledged to defend the officers if, in its view, they faced persecution or threats against their relatives.

In Khasavyurt, 15-year-old Maryam Akavova rescued a six-year-old child from a Lada Priora that had caught fire. On October 27, the ninth-grade student was walking past a parked car when she noticed a boy’s head sticking out of a window. Upon getting closer, she saw that the glove compartment inside the vehicle was already on fire.
