Russia does not intend to comply with the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) ruling requiring Georgian citizens to pay over 250 million euros, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated. When asked about the possibility of improving Russian-Georgian relations if the payment were made, Peskov noted that the Kremlin views this issue as a separate matter.

Today in Makhachkala a traditional picket took place in support of political prisoner-journalist Abdulmumin Gadzhiev. The action was attended by the deputy editor-in-chief of the Chernovik publication Magomed Magomedov and his colleagues.
In December 2023, lawyers from the Memorial Center sent an appeal to the UN to the rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Russia, Mariana Katsarova, regarding the case of Abdulmumin Gadzhiev. The message states that Hajiyev is being persecuted for his professional activities and religious views.
The authors of the appeal asked to invite experts to consider it, including on the issue of persecution of Gadzhiev as a representative of the Dagestan and North Caucasian minority, who is discriminated against as a Muslim.
Let us recall that in September 2023, the Rostov District Military Court found Abdulmumin Gadzhiev guilty and sentenced him to 17 years in prison. The editor of the “Religion” section of the Chernovik publication was tried under articles on “participation in the activities of terrorist organizations” and “financing terrorism.”
According to investigators, the journalist published materials about the Ansar charity foundation and did not mention that part of the money collected was sent to the Islamic State, an organization banned in the Russian Federation. The examinations did not find any signs of justifying terrorism in Hajiyev’s articles, and prosecution witnesses spoke in favor of the defendants.
