During the annual "Year in Review" press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin, responding to a question about support for young families, noted the tradition of early marriages in the North Caucasus. He said he believed this was "right" and suggested "following their example," citing Ramzan Kadyrov's large family.
The court in Makhachkala sent the detective of the police department for the Sovetsky district of Makhachkala under house arrest in the case of the death of the detainee Kurban Dalgatov. Earlier, the Supreme Court of Dagestan chose a similar preventive measure for two police officers.
According to the case materials, these employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are charged with inaction to suppress the illegal actions of their colleagues. In total, nine police officers are already under investigation.
In January 2023, it became known that 35-year-old Kurban Dalgatov died of strangulation in the police station in the Sovetsky district of Makhachkala. Doctors recorded his injuries.
According to investigators, the police detained Dalgatov because they believed that he had helped an acquaintance escape, who was suspected of shooting at a person. Having taken the man to the police department, the security forces, out of a “desire to show the effectiveness of their work,” began to demand that he indicate the whereabouts of an acquaintance. As a result of torture, the detainee died.
