The EU recalled Georgia’s high chance of becoming a candidate for membership in the organization

The Georgian authorities have submitted to the European Commission (EC) an action plan to fulfill new conditions for the country to obtain candidate status for accession to the European Union. This was stated by the EU Ambassador to Georgia Pavel Gerchinsky.

The Ambassador recalled that on November 8 the EC gave a positive recommendation in connection with granting candidate status to Georgia. The 27 EU countries will make a decision on December 14-15.

The day before, 70 Georgian non-governmental organizations appealed to European partners with a request to support the recommendations of the European Commission to grant the country candidate status for EU membership. In addition, the Georgian authorities announced that on December 15 they will hold a national celebration on the occasion of Georgia being granted the status of a candidate country for EU membership.

“We want to hold a nationwide, national celebration, victory celebration and concert to jointly celebrate this historic victory, the result of the work of our country and our people, our government and authorities,” said Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
