In Georgia, special forces dispersed protesters against the law on foreign agents

In Tbilisi, another protest took place near the parliament building against the law on foreign agents being discussed by the ruling Georgian Dream party. If it is adopted, media and non-profit organizations will lose their rights and freedoms, opponents of the law say.

Protesters blocked Rustaveli Avenue, the anthems of Georgia and the European Union were played. At the end of the rally, the dispersal of its participants began, 11 people were detained, many were injured.

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili appealed to Council of Europe President Charles Michel and French President Emmanuel Macron with a request to discuss events in Georgia at the European Council meeting on April 17. Zurabishvili called the actions of the Georgian Dream a provocation and a “Russian strategy of destabilization” in Georgia.

Georgia has candidate status for the EU, it was provided along with a list of nine steps, the implementation of which will allow it to move to the next stage - directly to negotiations on accession to the European Union.
