Body of Drowned Bekkhan Aushev Found in Ingushetia on 16th Day of Search

A massive search operation, followed closely for nearly two weeks by residents of Ingushetia and neighboring republics, has concluded. The body of 27-year-old Bekkhan Aushev, who had been missing since July 21, was discovered in the Assa River.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the body was found around 4:20 PM between the rural settlements of Muzhichi and Alkun—the area where rescue teams had concentrated their efforts in recent days.

The search lasted 16 days without interruption. Every day, personnel from the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the police, and the National Guard (Rosgvardiya), along with volunteers, scoured the mountain riverbed and its banks. Over the course of the operation, specialists examined more than 90 kilometers of the Assa River. In the final days, 234 people and 12 vehicles were involved in the search.

The work was complicated by strong currents, deep sections of the river, logjams, large boulders, and rugged, hard-to-reach mountain terrain. Many areas had to be searched almost entirely by hand; participants covered between 5 and 8 kilometers daily.

Specialists from neighboring Chechnya also joined the search. Following an appeal from the missing man's relatives, the head of the republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, ordered the deployment of additional forces. Chechen National Guard personnel arrived at the scene, led by the head of the regional directorate, Sharip Delimkhanov. The head of Chechnya had pledged that the search would continue "until a result is achieved."

Residents of several villages in Russia’s Republic of Dagestan affected by severe spring flooding say they have struggled to obtain compensation for damaged homes, with many claiming they secured payments only after appealing to prosecutors, commissioning independent expert assessments and requesting new inspections, the independent outlet Kavkazsky Uzel reported. Regional authorities have acknowledged that about 2,000 compensation claims initially rejected were later approved following appeals.
