While crews attempt to extinguish smoldering hotspots at the closed landfill in Malgobek, a new illegal dump is already forming nearby. Bers Bankhaev, head of Ingushetia’s Regional Management Center, highlighted this issue.

He reported seeing residents bringing household waste to the site even as heavy machinery covered smoldering areas with soil to prevent new fires.

"People keep hauling household waste here, effectively creating another dump," Bankhaev stated. He warned that information regarding violators would be handed over to law enforcement for prosecution.
Authorities have urged residents to use only the official landfill. Work at the old site continues daily and will conclude only after all smoldering hotspots are fully extinguished.

Illegal dumping remains a chronic problem in Ingushetia; 111 unauthorized waste disposal sites were identified in the republic in 2024 alone.

Fires occur regularly at the Malgobek landfill. *Fortanga* has repeatedly reported on blazes at the site—this year, as well as in 2023 and 2022. Numerous violations at the landfill, including frequent fires, were among the reasons for the termination of the contract between Ingushetia’s Ministry of Natural Resources and the regional waste management operator, "Ecosystem."

The problem extends well beyond the landfill itself. In the spring of 2026, residents of the Malgobek district told *Fortanga* about a large new illegal dump that had appeared near the exit of the *stanitsa* (village) of Voznesenskaya. According to them, trash has been dumped there for a long time, yet numerous appeals to the authorities and law enforcement agencies have failed to lead to any action.
