The trial of Imam Muhammad Tamaskhanov, accused of failing to report a terrorist crime (Article 205.6 of the Russian Criminal Code), continues in Ingushetia.
At a hearing in the Magas District Court, prosecution witness Alikhan Ozdoyev, who had previously testified against Tamaskhanov, changed his testimony. According to the imam's supporters, Ozdoyev admitted that his previous testimony was false and that he intentionally gave it due to personal differences with Tamaskhanov's religious activities. The supporters note that this calls into question the entire evidence base based on Ozdoyev's testimony.
As a reminder, Imams Muhammad Tamaskhanov and Magomed Sultygov were detained in April 2025. In December, a court sentenced Sultygov to a fine for failing to report a crime, despite his refusal to participate in a fundraiser for the alleged perpetrators. Religious and public figures in Ingushetia also alleged that illegal interrogation methods were used against Tamaskhanov to force him to admit ties to the "Gurazhev group," whose members attacked security forces in 2023. In March 2024, according to security forces, Amirkhan Gurazhev himself was killed during a special operation in Karabulak.
