A hunger strike in which a native of Chechnya participated has been stopped in the Irkutsk pre-trial detention center

Prisoners of SIZO-1 of Irkutsk, among whom was a native of Chechnya, Khumaid Khaidaev, stopped their hunger strike after 11 days. They complained of discrimination based on religion and cold conditions in the cells, the Civic Assistance Committee reported.

According to human rights activists, the administration of the detention center will not add food to the diet of Muslims that they do not eat due to religious beliefs. In addition, the cells became warmer.

Last year, the Kirovsky District Court of Irkutsk recognized as legal the refusal to initiate a criminal case regarding the torture to which Khumaid Khaidaev was subjected. He was abused in a pre-trial detention center after a prisoner riot in Angarsk IK-15 was suppressed in April 2020. The protest took place in April 2020 and was harshly suppressed by FSIN officers and special forces.
