The search for the Moscow tourist who fell into the waters of the Uchkulan mountain river in Karachay-Cherkessia on June 19 has entered its eighth day, according to the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations' press office.
"During the rescue operation, rescuers have searched over 150 kilometers of terrain. They are inspecting the shoreline, riverbed, and adjacent landscape areas, as well as flooded areas and debris fields," the ministry's press release stated.
Rescuers estimate that today's efforts are hampered by adverse weather conditions and rising water levels.
The incident occurred on June 19. Two tourists from Moscow were rafting on the Uchkulan in the Karachayevsky District when their catamaran capsized and they both fell into the water. One of the men managed to save himself, but the other was pulled underwater by a strong current.
According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, 285 people, including 60 children, have died in bodies of water since the beginning of June.
