In the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic, 13 people were convicted for participating in a banned Islamic organization
The Karachay City Court sentenced the leaders of a cell of the extremist organization At-Takfir Wal-Hijra, banned in Russia, to 3 years and 2 months in prison. Another 12 people received sentences from 2 years to 3 years and 1 month.

The court ruled that "from 2019 to December 2023, the leaders of the cell held meetings in a mosque with the participation of followers, where they studied extremist literature, promoting the activities of At-Takfir Wal-Hijra. All participants shared an extremist ideology, knowing about the ban on the organization in Russia, and deliberately took part in its activities."

Earlier, human rights activists noted that at present there is no convincing evidence confirming the existence of At-Takfir Wal-Hijra either in Russia or in other countries of the world. This is an Egyptian organization, the last mention of which was in the 1970s. According to historians, it has not existed in practice for a long time, but in the Russian Federation they believe the opposite.
